Starting Therapy at BridgeMinds: What to Expect (Consultation, Fees, and Virtual Care)

Beginning therapy is a meaningful decision. Once you decide you want support, the next step should feel straightforward—not confusing. Here’s what to expect when you start psychotherapy with BridgeMinds, including how consultation works, what virtual sessions look like, and how receipts and coverage typically work in Ontario and Quebec.

  1. The free 15-minute consultation: checking fit

A free 15-minute consultation gives you a chance to ask questions, describe what you’re looking for, and see whether the therapist’s style feels like a match. Fit matters—research consistently finds that the working relationship (the “therapeutic alliance”) is a major predictor of benefit. This is also the time to discuss preferences such as language, schedule, and what you hope will change.

  1. Fees and receipts (Ontario and Quebec)

BridgeMinds’ standard fees are $180 for individual sessions and $200 for couples sessions. Most private insurance plans reimburse psychotherapy services in Ontario when billed under “Psychotherapy” (coverage varies by plan). For Quebec clients, receipts are issued through a licensed supervisor (Diana Kirilenko) so that sessions can be claimed through eligible provincial or private coverage pathways where applicable.

  1. Virtual sessions: privacy, structure, and what you need

Sessions are typically 50 minutes and held virtually using secure, privacy-focused platforms. Virtual care can work well for busy professionals and families because it removes commuting time and increases flexibility. A strong session setup includes a stable internet connection, headphones if possible, and a private space where you can speak freely.

  1. Multilingual and multicultural care

For many clients, the most grounding experience is being able to speak in the language that holds their emotions most accurately. BridgeMinds offers services in English, Russian, and Romanian, supporting multicultural clients navigating immigration stress, high-pressure careers, and family transitions.

FAQ

  • What will we do in the first session? You’ll discuss what brings you in, your goals, relevant history, and what support would feel most useful. You’ll also collaborate on a plan for the first few weeks.
  • Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person? For many concerns, virtual psychotherapy can be highly effective—especially when sessions are consistent and privacy is protected.
  • What if I’m not sure what I need? That’s exactly what the consultation is for—clarifying goals and matching you to an approach.
